Verda Dierzen Early Learning Center has achieved “Touchdown Status” in the Fuel Up to Play 60 program. Fuel Up to Play 60 is an in-school nutrition and physical activity program launched by the National Dairy Council and the NFL, in collaboration with the USDA, to help encourage today's youth to lead healthier lives. As a part of the Touchdown School Rewards Program, VDELC will receive $500 from the Midwest Dairy Council.
Dierzen School Nurse Nancy Kreznor submitted materials to Fuel Up to Play 60 about activities at VDELC that encourage movement and nutrition. So far during the 2016-17 school year, the school has participated in a Celebration of Fruit, a Salute to Dairy, and a Celebration of Vegetables, during which a variety of veggies were purchased for PreK classes to try. Dierzen has also instituted “Brain Breaks” that encourage activity and stimulate the brain. In a letter to Mrs. Kreznor, the Midwest Dairy Council stated, “We hope these funds will help you continue to reward student leaders and support your efforts to create a healthier school through Fuel Up to
